Hallmarks

Precious metals are alloyed with other metals during the manufacturing process rather than used in their purest form. As a result, this makes it difficult to determine the amount of precious metal that is present in a particular jewellery piece. All of our jewellery comes with a guarantee of its precious metal content through third-party independent hallmarking.

It is unlawful to describe an item over a certain weight as silver, gold, palladium or platinum, as per the 1973 Hallmarking Act, without an independently applied hallmark. It states the following weights must be hallmarked:

  • Silver weighing more than 7.78 grams
  • Gold weighing more than 1 gram
  • Platinum weighing more than 0.5 grams
  • Palladium weighing more than 1 gram

Anything below the stated weight can be described as gold, silver, platinum or palladium without being hallmarked.
